30 Days of Thanksgiving – Days 23, 24, 25, and Yes 26 (Today!)

…and now I will be “caught up,” not that I expect anyone to be reading these except the Lord and I.  And that is just fine with me.  But if you are reading, I hope something you read here inspires you, makes you thankful, grateful, gives you the urge to do something good for someone else, whether you know them or not.

Day Twenty-Three – Thanksgiving Is the Pathway to Peace

“To be anxious about anything, but in any situation, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” –  Philippians 4:6-7

I am thankful thank my most recent serious anxious situation has been mitigated, prayers have been answered, and a solution found.  Prayer did not make the issue vanish into thin air, the Lord provided a solution for us to follow.

Day Twenty-Four – The Road Less Traveled

“The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make  her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord.  Joy and gladness will be found in her; Thanksgiving and the sound of singing.” – Isaiah 51:3

Reading the devotional on 30 Days of Thanksgiving for Day 24 hit close to home.  We struggled with infertility for years, until knowing that having children of our own was not in our plan.  But along that strenuous, long journey, I strengthened relationships, met new friends, learned new things about me, about Jon, about our relationship.  Making such a decision takes a very strong, loving relationship, one that can support each other when people look at you funny when you tell them you don’t have any kids and won’t be.  And really it’s none of their business why.

Day Twenty-Five – Where Would I Be Without the Atoning Blood of Christ?

“Is not the cup of Thanksgiving for we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ?  And is not the bread we break a participation in the body of Christ?” -1 Corinthians 10:16

Today I am thankful for forgiveness.  Jesus forgives all.  But we, as humans, have a harder time doing that – we hold grudges, are stubborn, have attitudes, and so on and so on.  Most of all I am thankful Jesus’ forgiveness.  But I am also thankful for the forgiveness of others. And I am thankful I have learned to forgive.  For a long time, I held grudges, and it made me an angry, mean person.  But letting it go, there’s no other feeling like it.

Day Twenty-Six – A Sense of Gratitude

“For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.” – Ephesians 1:15-16

Today I am so very thankful for a friendship I have had well over half my life.  She is an inspiration to me in so many ways, too many ways to count even.  But the thing is, over the past year or two, we have grown apart, and rarely talk.  I think of her often, all the times she has been there for me when I needed someone, she was there.  I pray for her and her family.  She is indeed a shining example of how to love others.
