Oscillo by Boiron, A Naturally Savvy Product Review

Oscillo short for Oscillococcinum is a homeopathic alternative medicine used to relieve influenza-like symptoms.  Oscillo is manufactured by the French company Boiron (the sole manufacturer), however there are similar preparations.  Oscillo is us used in over 50 countries, including the US, but has been in production in France for over 65 years.

boiron

As a Naturally Savvy Blogger, I was given the chance to try Oscillo by Boiron - and I would like to share my experiences with you.OscilloAdult6dose

This spring, with the crazy weather, it seems like everyone has been sick with something… even the people that never get sick!  Not just the run of the mill allergies, and miserable sinus infections (hello!), but colds, ear infections, even cases of the flu wiping out entire families – in May! Crazy!

Above and beyond taking precautions to stay healthy – washing hands, taking vitamins, getting sleep, exercising regularly, eating well... of course you can still get sick.

When you feel the first signs that you are getting sick – body aches, fatigue, headache, fever, etc., try Oscillio.  Its  a homeopathic (all natural) remedy that helps to reduce the duration and severity of cold and flu symptoms – helping you not get as sick, and get better sooner, without drug interactions or any side effects.  It’s non-drowsy (think about those cold medicine side effects…)

When I received my sample from Naturally Savvy of Oscillo, I was just coming down with the symptoms of a cold, on top of a sinus infection that I was already fighting.  Oscillo comes vial containing in quick dissolving pellets. The pellets do not need water to dissolve, and the small vial makes it easy for travel.  Within a day, the symptoms of the cold had pretty much resolved themselves.  I still had a slight cough, but the body aches that had started, went away, as did the scratchy throat.

To find out more about Oscillococcinum and other great homeopathic remedies Bioron makes, visit their website, Bioron USA.

Disclosure:  I was provided a sample from Naturally Savvy and Bioron USA for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.

pur-Absorb Iron Supplement Product Review

pur-absorb iron

Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia in which a person’s blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body’s tissues.  As the name implies, iron deficient anemia is caused by insufficient iron – without iron the body cannot create hemoglobin, a substance in red blood cells that allows them to carry oxygen.

Symptoms of iron deficient anemia include shortness of breath, feeling fatigue, a general lack of energy, and a decreased ability to concentrate.

Personally, I have struggled with iron deficient anemia since my late teens.  When I was first diagnosed, I put on a regimen of iron pills.  They work to counteract the anemia, however, the side effects are not pleasant – constipation, bloating, and heavier periods to name a few.  I stopped taking them after a while and instead enriched my diet with food high in iron: dark leafy greens, red meat, enriched grains, raisins, and beans.  That has only helped so much.

As a Naturally Savvy Blogger, I was introduced to a different kind of iron supplement – pur-Absorb – and I would like to share it with you.

pur-Absorb is unique to the iron supplement market for many reasons:  pur-Absorb is a 100% naturally occurring iron-rich spring water that has an over lower dose of iron than conventional iron supplements, and has high absorption rate of over 40% (conventional iron supplements average 18%).  pur-Absorb has been scientifically shown to contain a type of iron that our bodies readily absorb with little difficulty.  pur-Absorb comes straight from the Trefriw Wells Spa in the Snowdonia Mountain Range in North Wales, United Kingdom.

Each packet contains 5 mg of naturally-occurring elemental iron, in a mineral spring water form which is packaged right at the source (after filtration).  For over two hundred years, this iron-rich water has been bottled and used as a natural iron supplement.

pur-absorb iron-2

You can take pur-Absorb straight from the packet, or by diluting the packet in water, adding to orange, apple, pineapple, or tomato juice (grape juice is not recommended).  Also, you should not take it with milk, as it reduces absorption by up to 50%.

I first tried pur-Absorb right out of the packet.  I wasn’t the most pleasant drink (shot) in the world, but it was definitely tolerable.  The next day I tried the packet mixed in cold water, and I could hardly tell the pur-Absorb was in the water at all (I partly attribute this to the coldness of the water).

The recommended way to take pur-Absorb is with orange juice.  I don’t care for orange juice, but I love light apple juice, so that’s what I tried next.  With the juice, I could not tell the pur-Absorb was mixed into the juice at all.

I’ve been using pur-Absorb foroticed about two weeks, and I have had no gastro-intestinal side effects.  I have also noticed that I feel less fatigued and have more energy.  Although I have not had my iron levels tested, I am confident they have risen.

To learn more about pur-Absorb, visit their website and see if this iron supplement would be appropriate for you too!  You can find pur-Absorb Iron Supplements at drugstores, and you can also purchase it online on through Nelsons Natural World.  A 28-count box has a suggested retail price of $19.95.

Disclosure:  I was provided a sample from Naturally Savvy and pur-Absorb for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.  As this is a supplement, please discuss any changes to your supplement program with your healthcare provider before starting to use it, for health safety reasons.

Arm and Hammer Sensitive Toothpaste Review and FREE Sample

The product:  The makers of Arm and Hammer and Orajel bring maximum strength pain relief for a for a fraction of the cost versus the leading Sensitive Toothpaste Brand.  Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste relieves pain triggered by  hot, cold, acids, and sweets in a low abrasion formula that is 40% more gentle to exposed roots versus a leading Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste brand.  In addition, Arm and Hammer Sensitive Toothpaste effectively removes plaque and stains without causing sensitivity; it’s the secret to eating without fear.  The key benefits include:  relief from painful tooth and nerve sensitivity, low abrasion formula, deep cleaning, breath freshening, and fluoride cavity protection.

The review:  I received a sample of Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste from smiley 360.com (the world’s first social media powered community designed to bring the consumer new things to try and share your experiences within social media networks).  Typically, my husband and I use Sensodyne, as we both have sensitive teeth, but we were both willing to try the Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste to evaluate how well we felt the toothpaste worked.  On Day One, we both noted how the toothpaste has a light, minty, fresh, taste that we both enjoyed, and left us with nice, fresh breath after brushing our teeth.  The texture was not perfect, but definitively better than many other ‘sensitive’ toothpastes I have tried in the past.

Over the two weeks, I noticed a decreased sensitivity to cold foods, which is my sensitive teeth trigger.  My husband noticed a decreased sensitivity to hot foods, cold foods, and sweets, all of which are his sensitive teeth triggers.  The whitening powers of the toothpaste however, were not as powerful as it’s abilities to relieve from tooth sensitivity.  I wish I would have remembered to have taken before and after pictures of our teeth, but alas… the review must go on!

Overall, we liked Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste — it helped to relieve the pain from sensitivities from hot food, cold food, and sweets.  The flavor is flavorable, leaving us with nice, fresh breath for a good amount of time after brushing our teeth.  However, the whitening capabilities of the toothpaste were not it’s strongest point.  Affordability is though – the Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste is only $4.25 for 4.5 oz , in comparison to our regular Sensodyne Pronamel Whitening Toothpaste, which is $4.64 for 4 oz.

Want to try the Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste for yourself?  Head on over HERE, fill out the form, and your sample should arrive in approximately four to six weeks.  If you do sample and try Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste, please come back to this post and comment with your thoughts on the toothpaste!

Thanks Smiley 360 for the sample.  All opinions are my own.
