SSMMSR_Toolkit-290x188

As a Purex Insider, I received the NEW Soft Scrub Mold and Mildew Stain Remover Gel for review.  The NEW Soft Scrub Mold and Mildew Stain Remover features:

  • No Harsh Fumes or Overspray
  • Spray Gel that Clings to Stains
  • Cleans Tile, Grout, Showers & More

SSMMSR_Bottle-LRG

The New Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover Gel is a unique spray gel that is tough on stays and is gentle on surfaces.  It’s thick gel clings to bathroom surfaces to penetrate and remove tough stains… without  those harsh fumes or overspray.  This stain remover is absolutely perfect for cleaning tile, grout, tubs, showers, along with most other surfaces in the bathroom.

I tried the Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover Gel in our upstairs bathroom – which needed a good cleaning anyway.  I  sprayed the ‘problem areas’ of the tub surround (tile) and the tub itself (porcelain), and noticed that the gel stayed where I sprayed it!  I let it sit for a minute, then I scrubbed the walls and tub down with warm  water. Wow!  I was thoroughly impressed with how well it got rid of the spots of mildew, dirt, and gunk, leaving my tub/shower area sparkly clean!

I really like how New Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover Gel really CLEANS well, and quickly too.  And I am enamored that it’s a gel in a spray bottle, with great clinging power!

Oscillo by Boiron, A Naturally Savvy Product Review

Oscillo short for Oscillococcinum is a homeopathic alternative medicine used to relieve influenza-like symptoms.  Oscillo is manufactured by the French company Boiron (the sole manufacturer), however there are similar preparations.  Oscillo is us used in over 50 countries, including the US, but has been in production in France for over 65 years.

boiron

As a Naturally Savvy Blogger, I was given the chance to try Oscillo by Boiron - and I would like to share my experiences with you.OscilloAdult6dose

This spring, with the crazy weather, it seems like everyone has been sick with something… even the people that never get sick!  Not just the run of the mill allergies, and miserable sinus infections (hello!), but colds, ear infections, even cases of the flu wiping out entire families – in May! Crazy!

Above and beyond taking precautions to stay healthy – washing hands, taking vitamins, getting sleep, exercising regularly, eating well... of course you can still get sick.

When you feel the first signs that you are getting sick – body aches, fatigue, headache, fever, etc., try Oscillio.  Its  a homeopathic (all natural) remedy that helps to reduce the duration and severity of cold and flu symptoms – helping you not get as sick, and get better sooner, without drug interactions or any side effects.  It’s non-drowsy (think about those cold medicine side effects…)

When I received my sample from Naturally Savvy of Oscillo, I was just coming down with the symptoms of a cold, on top of a sinus infection that I was already fighting.  Oscillo comes vial containing in quick dissolving pellets. The pellets do not need water to dissolve, and the small vial makes it easy for travel.  Within a day, the symptoms of the cold had pretty much resolved themselves.  I still had a slight cough, but the body aches that had started, went away, as did the scratchy throat.

To find out more about Oscillococcinum and other great homeopathic remedies Bioron makes, visit their website, Bioron USA.

Going to Old Navy and checking out the Activewear Line was great!  I loved just about all the Activewear products, it was so difficult to choose just one top and bottom for each of us.  I was very impressed with the cleanliness, how orderly and stocked the store was!  Especially the Activewear section!  See these great photos I took below!

The Old Navy Activewear Line has line has lots of vibrant colors, but we decided to keep it pretty tame…

I decided to get  a magenta compression tank and black yoga pants with a magenta waist band… And my friend decided to get a grey long sleeve running top and black shorts (not necessarily to be worn together I think!)…

We had a great time shopping, spending quality time together, and of course, getting some Old Navy Activewear so we have no excuse not to exercise on a regular basis!

Label Lessons eBook Review

Label Lessons

As a Naturally Savvy Blogger, I had the opportunity to review the eBook Label Lessons:  Your Guide to a Healthy Shopping Cart. The eBook is is 31 pages long, so its a user-friendly, quick read, that is full of great information. I have found myself going back to the eBook and using it a reference guide, as it gives so much imperative information about not only food, but also supplements and personal care items too.

Label Lessons teaches regular people, like you and I how to properly read product labels.  It also contains information on how to cleanup your diet and eliminate some of the worst offenders, and eat healthier.  It compares labels you with national labels you are familiar with and tells you which ones are actually the healthy ones.  It provides healthier alternatives and why you should choose them.

Get your FREE eBook copy:  Label Lessons: Your Guide to a Healthy Shopping Cart

Naturally Savvy will donate $1.00 for every share of the eBook via the link above to the Holistic Moms Network.  Label Lessons also provides downloadable coupons for all the healthy products featured in the eBook, and you will have a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree to the Natural Products Store of your choice.  Note that the coupons and donations close June 22, 2013.

The Press Release for Label Lessons:

Helping consumers better navigate the aisles of their supermarkets for healthy food alternatives to mainstream products.  Label Lessons takes the conversation further, looking at supplements and personal care items as well as food, and how to understand product labels.

“My passion as a mother of three is teaching people how to read food labels so they can make the healthiest choices for their families,” says Donsky, adding, “many of us don’t know how to properly read food labels or how to cut through the marketing claims and understand every ingredient in the products they’re purchasing.  Label Lessons aims to help us make better purchasing decisions.”

The book will be accompanied by a series of Naturally Savvy alternagraphics, distributed through social media, which compare products in key categories, giving consumers healthy alternatives to popular mainstream products such as breakfast cereals and spreads, breakfast and snack food, as well as feminine hygiene products and vitamins.

The eBook is free to download. “This information is really important; more than one-third of US and Canadian children are obese.  We simply have to get this out there to as many families as possible, so we decided to make the book free to download,” says Donsky.  For every time Label Lessons is shared, Naturally Savvy will donate one dollar to the organization Holistic Moms Network (up to $10,000), which has a unique mission aimed at teaching parents how to live a more natural and healthy lifestyle.

pur-Absorb Iron Supplement Product Review

pur-absorb iron

Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia in which a person’s blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body’s tissues.  As the name implies, iron deficient anemia is caused by insufficient iron – without iron the body cannot create hemoglobin, a substance in red blood cells that allows them to carry oxygen.

Symptoms of iron deficient anemia include shortness of breath, feeling fatigue, a general lack of energy, and a decreased ability to concentrate.

Personally, I have struggled with iron deficient anemia since my late teens.  When I was first diagnosed, I put on a regimen of iron pills.  They work to counteract the anemia, however, the side effects are not pleasant – constipation, bloating, and heavier periods to name a few.  I stopped taking them after a while and instead enriched my diet with food high in iron: dark leafy greens, red meat, enriched grains, raisins, and beans.  That has only helped so much.

As a Naturally Savvy Blogger, I was introduced to a different kind of iron supplement – pur-Absorb – and I would like to share it with you.

pur-Absorb is unique to the iron supplement market for many reasons:  pur-Absorb is a 100% naturally occurring iron-rich spring water that has an over lower dose of iron than conventional iron supplements, and has high absorption rate of over 40% (conventional iron supplements average 18%).  pur-Absorb has been scientifically shown to contain a type of iron that our bodies readily absorb with little difficulty.  pur-Absorb comes straight from the Trefriw Wells Spa in the Snowdonia Mountain Range in North Wales, United Kingdom.

Each packet contains 5 mg of naturally-occurring elemental iron, in a mineral spring water form which is packaged right at the source (after filtration).  For over two hundred years, this iron-rich water has been bottled and used as a natural iron supplement.

pur-absorb iron-2

You can take pur-Absorb straight from the packet, or by diluting the packet in water, adding to orange, apple, pineapple, or tomato juice (grape juice is not recommended).  Also, you should not take it with milk, as it reduces absorption by up to 50%.

I first tried pur-Absorb right out of the packet.  I wasn’t the most pleasant drink (shot) in the world, but it was definitely tolerable.  The next day I tried the packet mixed in cold water, and I could hardly tell the pur-Absorb was in the water at all (I partly attribute this to the coldness of the water).

The recommended way to take pur-Absorb is with orange juice.  I don’t care for orange juice, but I love light apple juice, so that’s what I tried next.  With the juice, I could not tell the pur-Absorb was mixed into the juice at all.

I’ve been using pur-Absorb foroticed about two weeks, and I have had no gastro-intestinal side effects.  I have also noticed that I feel less fatigued and have more energy.  Although I have not had my iron levels tested, I am confident they have risen.

To learn more about pur-Absorb, visit their website and see if this iron supplement would be appropriate for you too!  You can find pur-Absorb Iron Supplements at drugstores, and you can also purchase it online on through Nelsons Natural World.  A 28-count box has a suggested retail price of $19.95.

Disclosure:  I was provided a sample from Naturally Savvy and pur-Absorb for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.  As this is a supplement, please discuss any changes to your supplement program with your healthcare provider before starting to use it, for health safety reasons.

Eukanuba Extraordinary Nutrition Dog Food – A BzzAgent Product Review

If you’ve read some of my posts, then you probably know about my two fur babies…Zeke and Zihna – Zeke is about seven years old, a German Shepherd mix rescue, and the sweetest dog on earth and has been around since day one; we adopted Zihna in June, and she will be three years old tomorrow, and is a full-blooded German Shepherd.  Zihna is high-speed, low-drag, moving nonstop and Zeke is move as little as possible.

With my two babies in mind, I was invited by BzzAgent to join their Eukanuba with 3D DentaDefense dog food campaign, and I was certainly excited because feeding my two 70-lb doggies quality dog food doesn’t come cheap.

BzzAgent graciously provided me with a coupon good for up to a 20-lb bag of dog food, so the hubby and I set out to the pet store, and we decided on the Eukanuba Adult Maintenance Dog Food.  I was reading up on the benefits of the dog food and found out a very cool benefit to this food and an eye opening statistic about the general health of the dog population:

Did you know your dog may have dental health issues you can’t see? In fact, 85% of dogs have serious tartar build up by the age of three.* Plaque and tartar are often invisible to the naked eye, but with Eukanuba’s help, you don’t have to play pet detective to have a healthy, happy and smiling pooch.

Recommended by vets, Eukanuba with 3D DentaDefense™ keeps your dog in top condition from tooth to tail. Ensure your canine’s canines are healthy — feed your pup the only leading brand that provides complete nutrition and superior tartar protection in every adult and senior diet.

So here’s a couple pictures of Zihna, trying out her new dinner of Eukanuba Adult Maintenance Dog Food:

Going…

2012-12-19_16-12-30_390 (1)

Gone!

If you can’t tell from the pictures, Zihna thoroughly enjoyed her new Eukanuba dinner.  Although Zeke didn’t make it into the photos, he also enjoyed his Eukanuba dinner.

The Eukanuba BzzAgent kit also contained a small black light and instructions on how to use the blacklight to check my dog’s teeth for tartar.  So the hubby and I checked their teeth.  I was surprised - Zihna’s teeth looked pretty good (much better than their initial condition from when we first adopted her – her teeth were terrible!) and good ole Zeke’s teeth looked pretty good for seven year old fellow..

After two weeks of feeding the Ukanuba to my dogs…

The tartar I did see on their teeth was diminished.  Both have shinier coats, better digestion of their food, and I have also seen an increase in energy from them.  Feeding the Eukanuba to my babies, I found this dog food to have many benefits over and above basic nutrition requirements of food alone.

I plan to continue to feed this Eukanuba dog food to my two German Shepherds.  I would highly recommend this food for all dogs, especially if they are in need better oral care, or additional nutrients in their diet in general.

Dial Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap in Holiday Designs – Review

I am excited to share with you Dial’s Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap, in Holiday Designs!

I love conducting product reviews — they are fun.  You get to try new things, sometimes products and foods you would would otherwise probably not try.  Dial’s Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap doesn’t fall into that category, but I was excited that this was a holiday-themed review.

I’m a stickler for washing hands.  Its a major factor in keeping yourself and those around you healthy (we’ll get back to this).

So, for all those factors, I was really excited to do this product review, and then the icing on the cake was when the box arrived in the mail.  I mean check out this awesome box!  Kudos to Purex Insiders for even making the box the Dial Holiday Foaming Hand Soap Fantastically Holiday Oriented and super cool!

Purex Insiders Holiday Dial-1

And here are the contents of said awesome box….

2012-12-14_06-01-35_39

I love to decorate for the holidays, in most every room, including in the bathroom.  I change the hand towels, hang a small set of lights on the window, add a special night light, add a votive in a festive holder, and now add a Dial Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap in a Holiday Design Bottle.  There are four designs – the Santa, the Snowman, the Candy Cane, and the Holiday Scene. My favorite is the Candy Cane.

And these bottles aren’t just pretty – they contain Dial Complete’s No. 1 Doctor Recommended Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash.  This formula kills 99.99% of germs encountered in the household setting while still  being gentle on the skin.

Check out more information about Dial Soap on their Facebook Page and their website!

Did you know that keeping your hands clean through improved hand hygiene is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.  Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean water. If clean, running water is not available, use soap and what water is available.  If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitize that contains at least 60% alcohol to clean hands.

So, now you have this fabulous Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap, but do you when you should be washing your hands?

  • Before, During, and After Preparing Food
  • Before Eating Food
  • Before and After Caring for Someone Who is Sick
  • Before and After treating a Cut or Wound
  • After using the Facilities (Restroom)
  • After Changing Diapers or Cleaning up a who has gone to the Bathroom
  • After Blowing Your Nose, Coughing, or Sneezing
  • After Touching an Animal or Animal Waste
  • After Handling Pet Food or Pet Treats
  • After Touching Garbage

Interested in sharing essential information on Why Frequent Hand Washing is so critical in stopping the spread of germs and disease?  Check out the links below!

Dial provided a free sample of their Holiday Foaming Hand Soap for this Post.  My participation is voluntary, and as always, my opinions are my own.

Covergirl and Olay Foundation & Pressed Powder – A BzzAgent Product Review

These are my favorite type of product reviews – beauty products!  If you know me, you know that I love my makeup.  Love, Love, Love.  And there is no exaggeration there at all.  I am completely serious.

Warning:  The following review contains graphic photos of me without any makeup.  View at your own discretion.  Just kidding! =)

As a BzzAgent, I was accepted into the Covergirl and Olay Campaign, which means I was provided the Covergirl and Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation and Pressed Powder for this review.  As always, the opinions expressed herein are my honest opinion of these products.

I started wearing makeup when I was 12.  I would sneak it to school and put on makeup in the bathroom before school started.  Nothing major, just eyeshadow and blush to begin with, but the makeup monster within was born.  From then on, I knew I was in love with makeup.  Not because I thought I needed it, but because I liked it.  I liked (and still do) the the way makeup enhances your natural features.

When I was 16, my best friend and I started wearing foundation.  We liked the Covergirl liquid foundation and pressed powder.  It had this distinctive scent that I can still remember.  I loved it.

Fast forward a few years, and my makeup skills and needs have evolved.  These days, I typically use a mineral powder foundation – I have found the mineral powder foundations to generally have a better coverage and more natural look than liquid foundations.  And it’s easier to avoid that “line” along your chin with the mineral foundations (which by the way, you shouldn’t have if you have the correct color foundation).  But I thought it would be fun to try a liquid foundation again, especially since its Covergirl.

Covergirl has teamed with Olay to produce Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation that combines foundation any hydrating serum that covers fine lines and wrinkles and helps to hydrate skin to improve it over time.  The Covergirl & Olay Pressed Powder helps to brighten skin while softening the look of imperfections in a unique formula that doesn’t look heavy or cakey.

Now, for the review.

First, a photo of me, clean face, sans makeup, with only moisturizer on my face.

Next, I applied the Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab Foundation with a foundation brush.  When applying liquid foundation, I suggest starting with your forehead working from the center of the face out, then under the eyes, again from the center of the face out.  This helps to avoid that “line” I was talking about before.  There has always been the debate between using your fingers, a sponge, or a brush to apply foundation.  Here’ my take:  if you use your fingers, you are guaranteed to get an uneven application, if you use a sponge, you lose a bunch of your foundation to the sponger (it just soaks it up), not to mention sponges are known to harbor bacteria, so I prefer a foundation brush.  You can get a nice, even application of the foundation, and brushes are easily washed (and should be on a regular basis).  After the foundation, I lightly patted a thin layer of pressed powder all over my face.  Here I am with the Covergirl & Olay foundation and powder only:

To finish, I applied a little bronzer, blush, a few shades of eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and lip tint.  Here’s the finished me:

My thoughts on the Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab foundation:  It applies well, has a good, thick, silky consistency, and applied very easily and evenly over my face.  It had good coverage, and the color matched my skin tone perfectly, so there was no issue the the “line.”

My thoughts on the Covergirl & Olay Pressed Powder:  I found the powder puff applicator that came with the compact to be a bit cheap, so I bought another one that was better quality and used that with the powder.  That made all the difference in the world in application.  I really like the pressed powder, it comes off onto the applicator in light layers, so application is very light and translucent.  And it finishes off the foundation very well.

My conclusions:  I think the foundation is very good quality and works very well.  For me however, it has too much coverage and is a little too thick for my needs.  The pressed powder however, has found a permanent home in my purse.  I love it for touch ups.  I would recommend both products to friends and family.
