UNREAL – Candy Unjunked – A BzzAgent Product Review

Oh no!  The Hershey Wishes and Kisses lady is going to do a review on chocolate that isn’t Hershey?  Oh yes, it’s true!  I may have lots of love for Hershey and most things that come from Hershey (if you don’t know what I am talking about, check out the About section of my blog =D), but I’ll tell you a secret – my all time favorite candy is the Snickers bar.  And I’m always up for trying something new, especially if it includes chocolate. As a BzzAgent, I was given a given a coupon for a free UNREAL candy bar so I could try it and share my opinions.  As always, all the opinions here are completely honest, and my own.

Have you heard of UNREAL Candy?  UNREAL Candy is “UNJUNKED” meaning it is free from artificial flavors, hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, preservatives, and genetically modified products.  And where did this idea come from?

The story behind UNREAL is pretty cool – to sum it up, a thirteen year old boy named Nicky had a fight with his Dad over some confiscated Halloween candy.  His Dad said the candy was bad for him, the Nicky disagreed, but did what smart kids do these days – he went online and did some research on candy.  Guess what, Dad was right! Nicky found our just how bad candy is for you – because of the unnecessary added ingredients like hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, artificial flavors, and preservatives.  Check out the entire story behind UNREAL Candy HERE.

I was lucky enough to find the candy bars on sale this week at CVS – they are Buy 1 Get 1 for $0.25. It was just a deal I could not pass up – I mean that means I could try more than one of the UNREAL Candies for this blog post.  This is what I bought at CVS with my coupon and the CVS sale (after the hubby ate one, on the way home from the store!):

My husband, Jon, and I both tried each of the candies.  These are our thoughts on each (listed from left to right in the photo above).

UNREAL 77 – Peanut Butter Cups:  I originally bought two of these, but my hubby cracked one open in the car on the way home after purchasing it, and ate them.  He liked the peanut butter cups.  I think the UNREAL 77 is comparable to the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.  I also liked this candy.  I like the flavor of the chocolate, and I also like the peanut butter filling – it is creamier and less salty than Reeses.  I would purchase this candy again if I found it on sale.

UNREAL 8 – Chocolate Caramel Peanut Nougat Bar:  This candy bar was okay.  The only thing I was on the fence about was the nougat filling.  I wasn’t a big fan of the texture or the flavor of the nougat.  Other than that, this candy bar was pretty good.  The hubby liked this candy bar.

UNREAL 41 – Candy Coated Chocolates:  These candies are comparable to Mars’ M&Ms.  They too were okay – they reminded me more of an “off-brand” M&M than anything else.  Generally, I am not an M&M eater, so I probably wouldn’t buy this for myself.  However, I do occasionally purchase candy for the office.  If this candy came in a larger package, I would buy it for the office candy jar (that sits on my desk, of course!).  The hubby was on the fence about these candies – he didn’t dislike them, but it also was not one of his favorites.

UNREAL 5 – Chocolate Caramel Nougat Bar: Both the hubby and I generally liked this candy bar.  What I said above about the nougat holds true for this candy bar as well.  Other than that, it was pretty good.  In general, I wouldn’t purchase this type of candy bar, so I probably would buy this one again.

Overall, I think the UNREAl – Candy Unjunked candies are pretty good.  And I really like that they don’t have all that added “junk” (hence the name) in them.  I would recommend you try the type of UNJUNK candy that replaces your favorite candy.  And as I mentioned in the beginning of the post, CVS currently has them on sale for Buy 1 Get 1 for $0.25.  That’s a really good deal!

Woolite Extra Dark Care Detergent – Product Review & FREE Sample

I’m a  member of Crowdtap - a platform that allows to brands and consumers to interact, and promote that magical Word of Mouth Marketing.  As a part of Crowdtap, I was accepted into the Woolite Extra Dark Care Detergent Campaign.

Crowdtap sent me samples for me to try and to share with my friends.  Unfortunately, the package of samples was damaged in transit, and I didn’t receive all my samples.  Instead of making a fuss, I made the best of the samples I did receive, giving them to those I knew who would try the samples and give me their honest feedback.

Now for the feedback from the samples:  three out of the four friends that I gave samples to really liked Woolite Extra Dark Care Detergent.  They liked the pleasant scent of the detergent, and how unique an idea it is to create a detergent made just for keeping your dark clothes intense.  The fourth friend said the detergent was okay, but was not impressed with its ability to clean soiled clothes.

I gave all my samples away to friends because I have tried Woolite Extra Dark Care Detergent before, and I like enough to use it on my dark clothes loads.  I have found that the detergent helps to keep black t-shirts, jeans, undies, nightgowns, and work clothes their original intense black color.  I have not noticed any fading in these clothes since I started using Woolite Extra Dark Care  on these clothes.  I like the scent of the detergent.  But I agree with my “fourth” friend — it isn’t the best detergent to use on soiled clothing, I have found that it is not the best detergent for soiled or stinky clothes.

If you want to try Woolite Extra Dark Care Detergent for yourself, head on HERE.  Once you have received your sample, please come back and let me know if you like it as much as I do!

Upcoming Product Review: Covergirl and Olay

YaY!

I’ve been accepted into the Covergirl and Olay BzzCampaign!

But what does that mean?

Well, I’ll be receiving a package in the mail containing the Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation and the Covergirl & Olay Pressed Powder to try out a few times, then I will write a review on this blog with my honest opinions and experiences with the product, and share it with BzzAgent.  If the results are favorable, I will continue to use the Covergirl and Olay foundation and pressed powder, and write one additional review of with more of the personal opinions and experiences with the product.

A word of caution:  The review will contain a photo of me sans makeup.  I wanted to forewarn you, so you aren’t scared when you see it =)

First Impressions:  I have always thought of the brands Covergirl and Olay to be good quality products, although I personally don’t use them in my typical morning makeup routine.  Years ago, I did, Covergirl was my ‘staple’ brand makeup, mostly because it was widely available, with many options to choose from (eyeshadows, eyeliner, foundation shades, etc.), and I could afford it.

I am looking forward to receiving these products in the mail and start playing, ahem trying them out!

Dry Idea – Review, Giveaway, and Sweepstakes! CLOSED

As a Purex Insider, I love being able to try out exciting products, write my reviews, and sometimes best of all, be able to host giveaways to you, of the products I that tried.  And no, since the group is called ‘Purex Insiders,’ it’s not just laundry products! =)

This time, I was given the opportunity to try Dry Idea Advanced Dry Roll-On Antiperspirant.   For more information about Dry Idea Deodorants, check them out on Facebook!  For this review, I was sent a full-size bottle to review.  To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I used a roll-on antiperspirant.  Since they came out on the market, I’ve stuck to the “clinical strength/protection” products, thinking they work better, but to be honest, lately I haven’t been too sure.  I do switch back and forth between brands, but always have stayed within that ”clinical strength/protection” realm.  At any rate, I was more than happy to try Dry Idea.

When I applied Dry Idea, it dried quickly (I was very happy about that, I was afraid I would be flapping my arms around like a chicken with it being a roll-on, but there was none of that – that would be the Fast-drying MicroCotton Formula!).  And Day One of Dry Idea testing was very much a test:  It was in the high 90s in the Mid-Atlantic!  Oh my goodness!  But thankfully, Dry Idea came through, and kept me dry and odor-free throughout the entire day.  They weren’t kidding about the 24 hour protection, the stuff lasted ALL day long!  Day Two of the Dry Idea testing:  Heat Wave continues, it hit over 100 (I don’t care for weather this hot…who the heck does??)… but the Dry Idea Antiperspirant came though in strides!  It kept dry throughout the entire day, and yes, I even had to trek outside at one point, and not just to get in my car.  =)

So, want to win some moolah?

Here’s the $1,000 Dry Idea Advanced Dry Sweepstakes! There is one Grand Prize at $500 and ten Second Place Prizes for $50 each!  Enter here!  (FREE money, hello?!?)

And for the all important GIVEAWAY! =)

I mean, apart from winning the sweepstakes, which would be totally awesome, and you should enter (like I said, FREE money, where can you go wrong there?!?) the GIVEAWAY is FREE PRODUCTS!

Two lucky readers will win coupons for One FREE Dry Idea Advanced Dry Antiperspirant.  To enter all you need to do is leave a comment and tell me what aspect of an antiperspirant is the most important to you.  This giveaway will end Saturday, July 7th at 11:59pm EST.  The winners will be chosen at random and will be notified by email and will have 48 hours to respond.

Disclosure:  Dry Idea provided me a sample of their Advanced Dry Roll-On for this review.  My participation is completely voluntary, and as always, my opinions are all my own.

crgccreations Flower Clips Review, Discount & Giveaway! – CLOSED

Yellow Flower Clip

Today I bring you a review of a few products from what I think is a great Etsy shop named crgccreations.  I came upon crgcreations on Etsy while just “window” shopping for some oh-so necessary flower clips (yeah, right, who am I kidding.  My friends and family have tons of flower clips and I have more flowers that go in my hair than I have in my front yard =D).  But, hey, I love them.  So that’s that.  So anyway, I purchased a variety of flower clips and headbands, and was very impressed with their quality. After a little back-and-forth email with the shop owner, Carla, I was given the OK to do this Review and Giveaway.  She’s even throwing in a discount to my readers BOTH (oh yes, she has TWO shops on Etsy…you’ll have to read on) of her shops. And of course there’s the giveaway, too.  That comes from me!

Carla is offering 10% off to my readers to BOTH of her Etsy shops, the codes are below:

First a little background on Carla, the shop owner of crgccreations.  Carla is a stay at home mommy, who enjoys creating accessories in her “spare” time.  After spending TOO much money on hair accessories for daughter, she decided to begin making her own!  Her creativity has grown from hair accessories into no-slip accessories, crochet hats, wristlets (cuffs), not to mention wallets, camera cases, and the occasional custom gift basket of any theme!  She also has an Etsy shop called rcocosmetics, where Carla sells her handmade, paraben-free, sensitive-skin friendly cosmetics (none of the ingredients are tested on animals).

Here are a few photos of me with the gorgeous flowers in my hair:

Dusty Blue Flower Clip

Purple Flower Clip

After I made my order on Etsy at crgccreations, I literally received a package in the mail with all my goodies in three days!  I have never ordered anything from Etsy (or similar sites) that have come so fast in the mail.  Not to mention I had a good amount email exchange with Carla, and she is very personable and willing to help out with anything you need/request.  When I opened the package, I honestly have to say, these are the most beautiful hair flower clips zipper flower clips (see below for a close-up picture, these are unique, one of a kind handcrafted beauties) I have ever seen.  I think I have fallen in love, again, with my hair accessories.

I wore one in my hair to work today for a fun, flirty summery look.  I thought it was rockin’ (but I guess that could be a biased opinion, being I am talking about me and all =D).

And for the GIVEAWAY!

One very lucky reader will win this fun pack of hair accessories:

  • Maroon Flower with Matching Headband
  • Pink Flower Brooch with Matching Headband (can be pinned into Headband)
  • Blue Ostrich Feather Clip

Pink Zipper Brooch

How do you enter to win?  EASY!  Just leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite item is from either the Etsy crgccreations shop or rcocosmetics shop.  This giveaway will close July 10th ad 11:59pm EST.  Winner will be notified via email and will be announced here on my blog.  Good Luck!

Disclosure:  I was not compensated to provide this review.  All opinions in this post are my own, and the giveaway items are provided my me!

The Review:  I received a a pair of Dr. Scholl’s For Her High Heel Insoles for participating in the Dr. Scholl’s for Her BzzAgent Campaign and sharing my honest opinions on the product, just as I am doing here.

I decided to try out the insoles when my husband and I were going to the AIA (American Institute of Architects) Exposition in DC, where we would be doing lots of walking – as we would be taking the metro into the city.  Here is m review, from the very beginning…After reviewing the insole and deciding they were a very nice looking product to be putting in the bottom of a shoe, I inserted the insole, and the first thing I noticed was the shape – in particular, the insole ends before the toes, so it gives you more toe room in those shoes that skimp on toe room (you know the ones I am talking about). Also, it’s self-adhesive, but not permanent, so if you don’t get the placement right the first time, you can adjust (or if you’re like me, move them from shoe to shoe =D).

Once we got to the Metro Station and really started walking around, I could tell a big difference with the insole being in my shoes.  The insoles gave the perfect amount of support for all the walking we did (from the car to the metro, from the metro, to the convention center, around the exposition and all the way back).  And for me, someone with back and leg problems, that’s quite an accomplishment.  put it this way – we had my foldable cane in the backpack just in case my pain got bad, and in case it got really bad, we could have gotten a wheelchair for the exposition (we’ve only had to do that a few times in rare cases of pain flare ups when it has gotten really bad).  Luckily, however, with a pain management program and good healthcare practitioners and lifestyle (trying) its not getting worse.

OK, sorry about the tangent, back to the insoles… I would say the helped a great deal with the amount of stamina I had in walking because my feet did start to hurt, I was putting pressure on the balls of my feet, and pressure was not running up my legs.  I also think it was helping me stand correctly, because of the supports. which  is terrific!

Even after getting home, and the day after, which is when I would really feel walking around like that in my feet in legs, I did feel a bit sore (because I am out of shape), but my feet felt just fine.  I look forward to wearing these insoles again and again in different shoes throughout the summer, and I look forward to the relief they will provide, just as they did this review.  I fully recommend the Dr. Scholl’s For Her High Heel Insoles for anyone looking to make their pretty shoes more comfortable, too!

Arm and Hammer Sensitive Toothpaste Review and FREE Sample

The product:  The makers of Arm and Hammer and Orajel bring maximum strength pain relief for a for a fraction of the cost versus the leading Sensitive Toothpaste Brand.  Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste relieves pain triggered by  hot, cold, acids, and sweets in a low abrasion formula that is 40% more gentle to exposed roots versus a leading Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste brand.  In addition, Arm and Hammer Sensitive Toothpaste effectively removes plaque and stains without causing sensitivity; it’s the secret to eating without fear.  The key benefits include:  relief from painful tooth and nerve sensitivity, low abrasion formula, deep cleaning, breath freshening, and fluoride cavity protection.

The review:  I received a sample of Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste from smiley 360.com (the world’s first social media powered community designed to bring the consumer new things to try and share your experiences within social media networks).  Typically, my husband and I use Sensodyne, as we both have sensitive teeth, but we were both willing to try the Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste to evaluate how well we felt the toothpaste worked.  On Day One, we both noted how the toothpaste has a light, minty, fresh, taste that we both enjoyed, and left us with nice, fresh breath after brushing our teeth.  The texture was not perfect, but definitively better than many other ‘sensitive’ toothpastes I have tried in the past.

Over the two weeks, I noticed a decreased sensitivity to cold foods, which is my sensitive teeth trigger.  My husband noticed a decreased sensitivity to hot foods, cold foods, and sweets, all of which are his sensitive teeth triggers.  The whitening powers of the toothpaste however, were not as powerful as it’s abilities to relieve from tooth sensitivity.  I wish I would have remembered to have taken before and after pictures of our teeth, but alas… the review must go on!

Overall, we liked Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste — it helped to relieve the pain from sensitivities from hot food, cold food, and sweets.  The flavor is flavorable, leaving us with nice, fresh breath for a good amount of time after brushing our teeth.  However, the whitening capabilities of the toothpaste were not it’s strongest point.  Affordability is though – the Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste is only $4.25 for 4.5 oz , in comparison to our regular Sensodyne Pronamel Whitening Toothpaste, which is $4.64 for 4 oz.

Want to try the Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste for yourself?  Head on over HERE, fill out the form, and your sample should arrive in approximately four to six weeks.  If you do sample and try Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste, please come back to this post and comment with your thoughts on the toothpaste!

Thanks Smiley 360 for the sample.  All opinions are my own.

Filippo Berio Olive Oil…a BzzAgent Review

Today I bring you a different kind of review than my “typical” reviews… a food product review!  That’s right, didn’t you know I could cook?!?

As a BzzAgent, I was accepted into the Filippo Berio Olive Oil Campaign, and already knowing just some of the benefits of using olive oil instead of butter or margarine in your diet, I was really excited!  When my free sample arrived in the mail, I already knew what I going to make for dinner, incorporating the new olive oil I had in my hands! Well, before we get to the fantastic dinner, more about this olive oil, and how good it is for you!

Olive Oil has great flavor, and beyond that, there are many health benefits to adding it to your diet (especially if you are replacing other fats with it).  Olive oil is naturally cholesterol, trans fat, salt, sugar, and gluten free; and it’s rich in monounsaturated fat (the good kind). For more information on Olive Oil and it’s benefits, check out Filippo Berio’s webpage HERE.

If you’re looking to replace butter or margarine with olive oil, go for it!  And check out the substitution chart below… it takes less of the good stuff (olive oil) than the bad-for-you stuff (butter or margarine). Cool huh?

OK, now back to dinner.  This is one of my all-time favorite dinners to make for Jon (the hubby, of course), but this time I was going to use use the substitution chart and use Olive Oil only, and no butter or margarine.  The menu: grill roasted potatoes, pan-fried chicken breasts, and freshly steamed broccoli.

First up:  The Grill Roasted Potatoes.  Prep time, maybe five minutes, tops.  Ingredients: Three small red potatoes per person, olive oil to coat, salt and pepper to taste.  Slice your potatoes into 1/4″ slices.  Cut two squares of aluminum foil per person.  In the middle of the first piece of aluminum foil, layout the slices of the three potatoes, then drizzle with olive oil to lightly coat, and then salt and pepper to taste.  Fold aluminum foil into an envelope around the potatoes.  Repeat enveloping with second piece of aluminum foil.  Repeat process for each serving of potatoes.  Grill on upper rack of grill for twenty minutes, or until potatoes are fork tender.

Second:  Pan Fried Chicken Breasts. Prep time, no more than three minutes.  Ingredients:  One boneless chicken breast per person, McCormick Grill Mates Chicken Rub, salt and pepper to taste.  Clean your chicken breasts thoroughly under cold water.  Remove excess fat from chicken breast, then butterfly.  Coat chicken breasts liberally with olive oil, then sprinkle with McCormick Grill Mates Chicken rub, and salt and pepper to taste.  Heat pan, then add chicken breasts.  Sear first side (approx three to four minutes, depending on thickness of your chicken breast and temperature of pan), then flip.  Cook on other side until internal temperature of thickest part of chicken breast reads 145 degrees F.

Third:  Steamed Broccoli.  Prep time, two minutes.  In a double boiler, place two inches of water, and place on flame to boil.  I would allot one stalk per person for servings.  trim off any leaves off the stalk, then cut the majority of the stalk from the florets.  Discard the stalk.  Cut the florets into bite size pieces, and drizzle very lightly with olive oil, then add to double boiler.  Steam for three to four minutes, until just for tender.

Unfortunately, I did take pictures when I made this dinner, but when I do again, I will add them to this post!

I love the taste Filippo Berio Olive Oil added to my dinner!  It’s a refreshing addition to any recipe, and I love knowing that it’s good for me.  Want to some more recipe ideas, check them out HERE.

Neutrogena Cosmetics Review

Yesterday I brought you my review of Garnier Fructis’ Triple Protection Shampoo and Conditioner.  Today I bring a review of one my favorite things on earth – makeup!  More specifically Neutrogena Cosmetics – Revitalizing Lip Balm, Nourishing Eyeliner and Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector (all shown below).

As a part of BzzAgent, I was accepted into the Neutrogena Campaign, and waited for the for my free products to arrive in the mail so I could review them.  I have to admit, I was really excited about this campaign.  I’m a “girly -girl,” so a cosmetics review is right up my alley.

My knowledge of Neutrogena as a brand before the campaign - really good skin care.  I knew they carried cosmetics, but I had never tried them. I guess now was the time!

And then the package came in the mail!  Oh la la!  I just couldn’t wait for morning to come to try the makeup out, so I had to try all the components out that very evening!

First, the Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Eye Perfector (better known as under-eye concealer).  This stuff does exactly what it says its going to do… brighten and conceal, without being cakey like many other concealers.  I like the dispenser too, all you do is twist a couple clicks, and a little come out onto the flow-through brush (enough for both eyes!).  And, it is formulated with UVA/UVB SPF 25, to protect that sensitive skin around the eyes from the harsh sun.  This retails for $11.99 at any local drugstore or big box store, and I think it’s well worth it.

Next up, the Neutrogena’s Nourishing Eye Liner.

I received the black to review, which is good, because that’s what I wear.  I like it, the liner goes on smooth and dark (although I personally like a bit of thinner line when applying for precise application, but this one is OK), and has good smudge-ability.  It’s infused with olive oil and rain-forest shea butter to condition the delicate skin around the lashes. This Eye Liner will run you about $7.49 at your local drugstore, big box store. This Eye Liner is available is black, pewter, chocolate, and twilight blue.  I

And finally, last but not least, Neutrogena’s Revitalizing Lip Balm.  I really like the texture of these lips balms.  They are very smooth, and go on in a perfectly-thin layer (not thick, messy, and in globs like some waxy-ish lip balms I have tried in the past).  I also love the tint of color – just enough to give some life to the lips, but not so much the color looks fake.  This will run you about $8.49 retail.  And because it has a touch of color and SPF 20 in it, this great lip balm could replace more than one product in your arsenal (gotta love that!).

I really, really, enjoyed reviewing these Neutrogena Cosmetics, and have to say, the Healthy Skin Eye Perfector and Lip Balm are here to stay in my makeup bag.  Well, at least the concealer will be at home for the morning routine, and the lip in my purse so I have it with me at all times!  Thanks BzzAgent for a great campaign!

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Shampoo and Conditioner Review

A few weeks ago, I received a coveted package from BzzAgent containing samples of Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Shampoo and Conditioner to try and review.  I hate to say it, but yes, I would consider myself a bit of hair snob, as until late last week, when I got an awesome hair cut, I had a ton of to care for.  I loved my long hair, but it was time for a change.

Check out the new haircut:

Unlike most shampoo and conditioners, it does have an overbearing scent, it feels very natural as you lather in and it washed out smoothly and quickly. Using this shampoo and conditioner, I have noticed an increase in shine to my naturally dry hair.  If you have naturally oily hair however, this may not be for you, the “three weightless oils: olive, avocado and shea”  may be too much for your hair type.My husband could tell you, I am not one to just pick anything up off the self and use it on my hair.  I have to hear good things about it, from someone I trust.  And I had used Garnier Fructis products in the past, with mixed success, so I was willing to at least give them a try again.  I have to tell you, I have been pleasantly surprised with the results of using Garnier Fructis’ Triple Nutrition Shampoo and Coniditioner for two weeks.

Also, as a person who tries to eco-conscious, I like knowing that the bottles of these shampoos and conditioners are made of PET, the most widely recycled plastic, and contains 30% recycled material.

My bottom line, I will be finishing these bottles, and buying more off the shelves; Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition is very reasonably priced, works well on my hair, and I love the results!
